What Volunteering for The FIDGIT Study Means
Note that this is an exploratory study, there is no intervention or treatments.
We are Recruiting Adult Women
You need to be at least 18 years of age, female.
The ability to understand, provide written consent, and follow instructions in English is required.
Women with fibromyalgia are encouraged to invite an adult female who is a friend, family member, or co-habitant to volunteer as a "healthy control".
We will not include you if you are a smoker, pregnant, or if you have diabetes or any chronic medical condition that may affect the information from your test samples.
Are You Able to Travel to the Study Site?
The research centre for The FIDGIT Study is the Auckland Gut Clinic. You will need to come to the research centre at the start of the study. Three further visits to the research centre are required to complete all the tests we are running. Some tests may be able to be conducted remotely.
We Will Need Some Test Samples
We will ask you to collect samples of your stool (faeces) and urine. At the study site we will collecting samples of your blood, saliva, and breath.
Each of three tests associated with breath collection will take up to 3 hours to complete. A preparatory diet and overnight water-only fast is required. At the first appointment we will explain the test procedures to you.
Complete Comprehensive Questionnaires
The FIDGIT Study includes completing a suite of questionnaires. These are necessary to get detailed information about your health and symptoms. The questionnaires are completed online. The amount of time it takes to complete the questionnaires will vary between participants, but you will be able to save your entries, and complete the questionnaire in sections over a day or two.
